I recently had the great privilege of photographing my beautiful past bride and friend, Laurie, for her head shots for the start of her makeup artist business. I met Laurie and her now husband, Kaleb, back in early 2012 when they hired me as their wedding photographer. For me, it felt like Kaleb and Laurie were old friends even though we had never met. It was such a pleasure getting to know them and work with them. Since then, I’ve done various photos for them and their family and this time was no different. I was thrilled when Laurie told me she was starting a business and needed some head shots! Of COURSE I wanted to shoot those for her! After having to reschedule a few times because of our wonky weather, we finally found a beautiful day (that still played tricks on us during the session) and Laurie headed over from Lake City. Beautiful, as always, Laurie was ready to go! Here are some of my favorites from her session.

jeff zenisek, jeff zenisek comedy, zenisek, grounded podcast, the comedy zone, comedy zone, comedy zone jacksonville, It’s been a little over two months since my last blog post. To say I’ve been busy is an understatement. I won’t go into all of the details, but in the last two months, we ended up deciding to move, moved, my husband was in the hospital for a little over a week, and we had his parents in town to help me with all of the moving since he couldn’t. We have a ton of unpacking to do, but, I’m glad the last two months is finally over with. Now that things are slowing down a bit, I’m hoping to spend more time blogging so you can see that I didn’t just drop off of the face of the earth, though part of me wanted to! Moving sucks!

Anyway, so, now I’m onto blogging the shoots I’ve done over the last couple of months. Jeff Zenisek is a local comedian, but also travels quite a bit for stand up shows. He’s been my husband’s best friend for just a few months longer than I’ve known my husband. That’s right… High school, Internet. High school. Jeff has a natural talent for comedy, but since he’s pursued it as a profession, he’s blossomed into an amazing writer for his comedy and podcasting. Jeff hired me to take photos of him in action at The Comedy Zone at the Ramada Inn in Jacksonville. I highly recommend seeing one of Jeff’s shows. He’s hilarious and he keeps it pretty clean compared to the other comics. He doesn’t just jump from joke to joke with punch line after punch line. He grabs your attention from the get go and you almost forget where you are because you’re so engrossed in his gig. Anyway, here are my favorites from his show. Be sure to check out his website, jeffzenisek.com, to see a calendar of his upcoming shows, connect, and more.

Seriously, I’ve been terrible at keeping up with my blog lately. No doubt, summers in Florida are the “down” times for shooting because it is so hot, no one wants to do their session in this 96 degree weather, however, I’ve been shooting and taking some time off to enjoy other creative outlets. Here are a few things that have been going on with me.

I recently shot a gorgeous engagement session with my October 12th couple. I’m so pleased with the way the photos turned out. I can’t wait to blog them! Ali and Marielle are so sweet, gorgeous, and fun. More to come on their session soon!

I also had the opportunity to photograph one of our local comedians, Jeff Zenisek, during a live performance at the Comedy Zone. If you’ve never checked him out, you definitely should. I like that his humor is pretty clean (comparatively) and that he doesn’t just jump from joke to joke. If you have a chance to see him perform, you should definitely jump on it. You won’t be disappointed.

One of my closest friends was in town for almost 2 months. I mentioned in an earlier post that Andre, her sweet Chinese Sharpei, had cancer. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to her a couple of weeks ago. That was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to be a part of. I captured her final moments of love with Monica, but they’re too painful to share right now. So instead, I’ll share this sweet photo of their shoot from December 2012.

Speaking of sad moments with dogs… Riley’s one year death anniversary came to pass. I miss that boy every single day. Here’s a photo from his 6th birthday, which was his last.

Anyway, on to happier things. My great friend Jenn Hopkins of Jenn Hopkins Photography is having a baby! I had the privilege of photographing her maternity session. It was such an honor! Here’s one of my favs. Photographed by me, edited by her.

I’ve been working on sewing a lot. I love to sew for family and friends. I’ve been trying to stock my Etsy store. Here are some items I have for sale.

I’ve also been working on my life and living blog. I did a redesign of it and renamed it to Studio J from According To Jen. I really love it. It’s way more “me” now. Plus, it involves my sweet, sweet dog Jayda and she is my baby. I guess that’s about it. I have family coming in town over the next few weeks so I may continue to be MIA for awhile, but I’ve missed you all and can’t wait to show you more of what I’ve been photographing. XOXO

I’ve known Jeff just as long as I’ve known Colby. I can almost remember the day I met Colby, meeting Jeff and trying to stuff his 6′ 7″ tall self into the back of my Sunfire giving them a ride home from school because their ride bailed on them. Let me tell you, it was a full car. One of my best friends was in the front seat, she had a crush on Colby, and there was Jeff. Poor Jeff, in the middle of Megan and I’s boy shenanigans with trying to set her up with who later became my husband. I remember the first time we all went out, we went to Bowl America. Megan was super shy so I did all of the talking with Jeff and Colby, though I think she ended up talking to Jeff more than Colby because she was uncomfortable. Anyway, so Jeff is my husband’s best friend to this day. He was Colby’s best man at our wedding.

Now that we are living back in Jacksonville, he and Colby have gotten to spend a lot of time together. Jeff started pursuing comedy and let me tell you, he is hilarious. I thought he was just funny as a person, but he is funny as a comedian too. He invited us to the Comedy Zone to watch his gig and Colby and I both knew from that night that he really has a shot at being a professional comedian. What do all professionals need? Professional head shots.

I decided to do my normal head shot type photos but I also have been dabbling in studio photography, thanks to my class at UNF (I’m not so scared of lighting anymore) so there are studio type head shots here too.

Be sure to check out Jeff’s fan page on Facebook by clicking here and “like” it. If you’re in Jacksonville or will be visiting Jacksonville, be sure to check out one of his shows!
